Handyman / Grounds Keeper (Couple) - Madeira Beach, FL

Need a maintenance person / handyperson / groundskeeper for our motel. We are looking for someone with great plumbing experience, finish carpentry, light painting, who has a mr. fix-it aptitude for fixing things that are broken, and can maintain an easy landscape.

Plumbing is the most important and involves fixing leaking faucets (replacing washers and seats), toilets (flappers and broken handles), and leaking or clogged sink drains. A finish carpenter for some small projects is a must. There are always paint touchups and you will have to paint your carpentry projects. The repair aptitude is important when it comes to having the ability to fix anything; a chair, a table, a lamp, a door, phone cords… I stress aptitude, because fixing something you have never fixed is easy if you have the experience of fixing many things. It is a knack. The landscape work is mowing, trimming, raking, and more trimming, all the basic yard work required keeping the place looking nice.

This position is a live on-site position. We are offering a large studio apartment with all utilities (electric, wifi, cable, phone). You will be required to get the repairs done timely and above all in a manner that puts things back the same or better than it was. If you have to go into a room occupied by a guest then respectful, clean, “I actually know what I am doing” work is a must. We are a small medium sized motel (29 rooms) and in today’s tight market quality and affordability is our niche. We need to maintain our building and grounds in a very high manner. We need someone who not only has the ability, but has the pride.

Again, this position provides an on-site studio (one room apartment) with full kitchen. Also included will be a shop area to store your tools and manage parts inventory. It includes a salary as well. The salary is negotiable and will depend upon the person, at least $125 per week. This is a contract job, so you must be self-employed. The job orders will come from the hotel, but your work and schedule is autonomous. This work will not take up your full week by any means, but when something is broke or water is leaking, they need to be fixed. Small projects will be assigned to move the hotel forward. There will be large remodeling in the fall where the work will be full time, and obviously the pay will be adjusted accordingly. This job will allow you to have small outside handyman type jobs, but remember if you take a large outside job, you will disappoint that customer if you can’t be there 8 hours each day, and you will disappoint us if you don’t get the repairs done. You will lose both.

The person we are looking for is mature, a non-drinker (bluntly a non-drunk), non-smoker, presentable, leaves behind a clean quality job. All the above are a must as you will be living at our hotel. This is a great position for a recently semi-retired person. Nothing is hard, and nothing is strenuous, but everything is important.
