Farm Marketing and Sales Positions
Looking for a reliable, energetic couple, or two individuals to work on our family farm in upstate New York from Mid-April/May 1, 2017 - October 31, 2017. If you are not afraid of hard work, and looking to learn about farming practices and agribusiness sales and marketing, this position is for you! Successful farm marketing and sales is what keeps family farms viable.
We offer:
Training, hourly pay, free room (private room/bathroom/livingroom, shared kitchen/laundry), and free access to all of the food we grow on the farm, plus an additional food stipend of $100/month. End of season bonus for completing the season. 25 - 40+ hours/week depending on season.
Job duties vary depending on the season (and the day) but include:

Store/sales: Display organization, farmers markets, working at our retail store, customer service, training new staff (when needed), driving trucks to markets.

Marketing: Photography, social media marketing, email marketing, website updates, as needed.

Greenhouse Work: watering, transplanting, loading the trucks for market, moving plants from greenhouses to store, organizing, cleaning, maintenance, etc..

Field Work: trimming, planting, picking, mowing, irrigation, etc. (Field work is a small part of this position.)

Animals: Feeding/moving free ranged chickens, bottle feeding calves in the fall (if applicable), organizing/cleaning barns.

Produce: Sorting and packaging produce for distribution, sales, and donations.

Production: Cider pressing (fall season), apple cider donut making, etc.

Educational Tours: Assisting with educational tours as needed.

Other: Additional maintenance and jobs assigned as needed.
Requirements:

Ability to lift 50lbs and stand/walk for approximately 90% of the time. (This is a very physically demanding job. If you are concerned about your ability to fulfil the physical requirements, inquire about other positions we have available.)

Honesty, efficiency, strong communication skills, punctual, attention to detail, ability to work as part of a team, strong work ethic, commitment to work the entire season (required - we are a small family farm and will be depending heavily on these positions).

About our Farm:
Established in 1910, our 300+ acre family farm has been feeding our community for 107 years. Current owners, Ken and Kris Johnson have focused the business on diversification to help ensure success when Mother Nature isn’t forgiving, low spray-no spray practices, community education and involvement, and utilizing local Farmers Markets for product distribution and sales. Ken and Kris Johnson both have their Masters in Agriculture Economics, 23 years of on-farm experience, and 8 years experience in the corporate world. Major crops include, apples, peaches, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, raspberries, squash, kale, peppers, pasture raised chickens, flowers, vegetable plants, etc. Our farm is located 10 minutes from Albany, New York, 2 hours north of New York City, and 2.5 hours west of Boston, MA.
