Seeking a Resident Caretaker Couple for a private island in British Columbia’s Discovery Islands located in the Strait of Georgia. The islands are a family owned residence accessible year-round by boat or floatplane. The Caretaker Couple will manage the island operations in full accordance with the terms of a Conservation Covenant, which governs all activities on the islands.
This position is full-time and live-in. A beautiful Caretaker’s cottage is provided on the island. For the right Couple, this position provides a tiny slice of paradise.

Responsibilities Include:
-
Administration and reporting
-
Equipment and tool management and maintenance. Includes but not limited to boats, land vehicles, construction/landscaping equipment, tractors, golf carts, generators, solar power equipment, tools related to carpentry, electrical, etc.

Garden and grounds care
-
Cleaning and maintenance of building interiors including the primary residence which is a 10,000 square foot lodge

Laundry
-
Management of seasonal staff
-
Vendor management
-
Island security and surveillance
-
Preventive maintenance that includes close observation of the property, buildings, garden, equipment, water system, etc.

Identifying repair and upgrade projects
-
Planting, gardening and harvesting
-
Greenhouse management
-
Sawmill management to include cutting of firewood
-
Liaising with tree-faller to remove danger trees
-
Canning, pickling, jams
-
Provisioning the island with food, toiletries and cleaning products
-
Seasonal deep cleaning projects
-
Keeping exterior pathways clean and free of debris
-
Management and testing of water system
-
Management of septic systems
-
Maintenance of irrigation systems
-
Maintenance, cleaning of outdoor furniture
-
Thorough organization of all equipment storage sheds
-
Provide security and surveillance as needed
-
Assistance with entertainment from time to time

Budget management and reporting
Skills and Attributes:
-
Ability to coordinate, manage and work with seasonal staff, contractors and independent workers
-
Excellent communication, organizational and critical thinking skills in executing decisions that impact island functions
-
Resourceful with an ability to multi-task with interest in learning how to manage a range of island, machinery, resources and amenities
-
Ability to monitor and maintain complex, off-grid equipment including power, septic, fuel and electrical systems
-
Willingness to take ownership of management and maintenance of a large and complicated property
-
Experience operating power boats in a range of ocean conditions
-
Ability to manage range of household functions that include guest management, cleaning and cooking
-
Proficiency with technology including computers, cell phones, Wifi, Internet research, record keeping, completing and filing ongoing reports
-
Ability to perform physical work in an outdoor environment with experience in landscaping and garden management
-
Carpentry skills
-
Generally handy when it comes to mechanical systems and equipment

Ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds
-
A background working as an ECO-Lodge couple is an asset
-
Must have valid Drivers License with a clean driver’s abstract

Must have valid BC Boaters License
-
Must currently hold status to legally work in Canada
-
Be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement
