WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?

Horse and Garden is a small, certified organic producer of mixed vegetables and fruit located on a 75 acre riverfront farm near Windsor, NS. With 1 ½ acres under cultivation, we are entering our 3rd year of commercial production and during 2011 will offer a 50 member CSA Harvest Share, attend weekly Farmers Markets and produce hay both for sale and our own use. We also have a 2 yr. old raspberry stand for u-pick & value-added opportunities.

The Farm Team is composed of the owner as General Manager and annually hosts 3-4 agricultural interns who principally work the gardens, assemble the Harvest Shares and help at Markets. We provide a strong Intern workshop pgm. Over each of the past 2 seasons, a seasonal Field Manager has been successfully developed from the intern pool. This is again anticipated for 2011. In 2011, we wish to add a full time Assistant Manager.

We are seeking Candidates for Assistant Manager: April 15 - Nov 15. Couples welcome!

Candidates should be self-starters, able to assume responsibility, possess good problem-solving skills and enjoy and work well with others. Organic field experience, an established work ethic, and an interest in a future in organic farming are essential. Tractor and machine skills are highly valued.

During 2011, under direction and mentorship of the owner, the Assistant Manager's responsibilities will be to oversee the general field and farm operation, including management of the intern team, as well as becoming involved in the day-to-day business of operating a small farm.

The Assistant Manager will be encouraged to assume greater management responsibilities in all areas of the operation as the season progresses. (During 2011, the owner must respond to off-farm responsibilities that have been sidelined during start-up. Consequently, the Assistant Manager must be dependable and will be an essential element of farm management.)

With a successful 2011 season behind us, potential exists for the Assistant Manager to return (annually) with greater responsibilities and benefits; and ultimately be considered in a succession plan.

A paid position, the Assistant Manager will be provided with accommodation and food, as well as a 50% profit share of the net proceedings from the Farm. (Depending on success of funding applications currently under review, the AM may qualify for additional salary benefits.)

Application Deadline: Feb 28 2011 or until position is filled.

Couples welcome!
