We are seeking caring, dedicated individuals to join our team as house parent couples. While helping the Home accomplish its mission to support and strengthen youth, young adults and families, house parents provide direct care for teenage boys in our Residential Care Program. Utilizing a family environment and behaviorally-based curriculum, House Parents work with youth to promote positive life skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
Youth live, attend school and work on the Home’s main campus. House parent couples not only change the lives of youth, but also have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the human services field and can even attend school if they wish.
In addition to the base pay, housing, utilities and food are also paid for and a vehicle is provided. We offer excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, 401k plan with company match and tuition reimbursement.
House Parent Couple: House parent couples act as positive role models and fulfill the daily parental duties for the youth in their care in a supportive, structured environment. Youth care – Ensures youth are ready for school or other activities for the day. Provides instruction regarding health and personal habits, behaviors, and provides assistance in achievement of academic goals. Provides teaching interactions, awarding both positive and negative consequences for appropriate personal and social behaviors. Reporting – Recording of points on youth cards at the end of each day. Prepares reports including but not limited to weekly progress reports, school reports, treatment plans, cottage operating budget, and incident reports. Household responsibilities – This may include transporting youth to appointments, or attending staff meetings or discussions with treatment teams. Youth may have daily household chores or afterschool jobs. Couples will accompany youth to the dining hall for meals as a family unit and will plan recreational activities and cottage outings. Other tasks may include handling mail, recording petty cash, communication with guardians/collaterals and scheduling appointments.
Required Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. • At least 21 years of age. • Previous experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. • Knowledge of psychological and sociological aspects of youth desired. • Must have the ability to implement and carry out the Home’s motivational behavior system in a positive and effective way. • Must be able to be certified and able to perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. • Basic knowledge of first aid and safety and ability to obtain CPR certification. • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and current auto insurance, and the ability to pass an extensive background check. • Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in the organization’s service and staff population, both individually and in groups.
