Northern Lights Resort & Spa is an award winning Lodge/Resort business catering to customers from all over the globe and we offer All-Inclusive packages for Northern Lights Viewing & Nature – Fun Activities between September to April and operate as an upscale Bed & Breakfast in the summer season from June to August. We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, organized and experienced Resort Manager / Innkeeper Couple for our small boutique Resort located near Whitehorse, Yukon. The Resort is located in the beautiful Southern Lakes region of the Yukon within the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation. Beautiful scenery and extensive history makes the Yukon a significant tourist destination.
This is a live-in position and oversees all aspects of this award winning Resort. The successful candidates will maintain property operations by attracting and serving guests, upholding Resort appearance and ensuring we meet or exceed company goals and targets. We believe that customer interaction with the Owners and the Management is what makes our Resort special & exclusive, so we are seeking a special individual(s) to assist in all aspects of the business. The ideal individual(s) should embrace the demands of the life of managers / innkeepers with a positive attitude and professional manner. The Resort Manager / Innkeeper Couple will be responsible for creating a warm welcoming environment for all guests. This position is responsible for assuring all guest requests are responded to in a timely manner. This role allows the opportunity for guest interaction and has a direct impact on the guest experience. The job requires someone with a fairly flexible schedule. Typically, 55+ hours/week depends on the season and reservations. Hours also depend on what a candidate can bring, as the owners can use help with a variety of things. The Resort operates 7 days a week from June to early April, so working hours on weekends, evenings and sometimes early mornings is necessary. The owners of the Resort & Spa are very hands-on in all aspects of everyday operations and are reliant on this position to have a focus on excellent customer service, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to create an exceptional guest experience.
The Resort Manager / Innkeeper Couple will be responsible for the daily operations of the Resort which would include the food and beverage department, maintenance, housekeeping, front desk and recreation department, including the day to day staff management, the guest experience and an ambassador for the property. This position will also provide leadership and strategic planning to those departments in support of our service culture, maximized operations and guest satisfaction and will work very closely with Ownership of the Resort.
The Manager Couple assumes total responsibility for assigned location and staff and manages the Resort to assure efficient and profitable operation. Establishes tone for property. Administers employee personnel policies on location. Delegates authority and assigns responsibilities to department heads/staff.
Responsibilities
- Manages (plans, directs, supervises, evaluates, rewards, and disciplines) all tasks performed by department managers and staff.
- Ensures the safety and protection of property, guests and employees.
- Communicates on a frequent basis with Ownership and other central service areas, especially regarding any unusual situations.
- Ensures effective employee assimilation upon arrival. Including; assigning staff accommodations, explanation of policies and expectations, property tour, introduction to department managers for schedule and uniforms, etc.
- Establishes a tone of professionalism, positive thinking, and promotes a culture consistent with organizational values.
- Builds and fosters team environment among all staff members. Model’s the way to promote a positive can-do attitude, ensuring exceptional guest service.
- Works with People & Culture to assist with employee transfers, promotions, coaching, disciplinary action, terminations, etc.
- Meets daily with Department managers/staff to discuss operational needs, occupancy, staff concerns, productivity, daily forecasts, sales goals, etc.
- Holds regularly staff meetings to review performance and update budgets, forecasts, hotel activities, etc.
- Works with Staff Accountant to assign manager’s operating banks. Plans and distributes change to outlets when necessary.
- Works with Chef, F&B manager on food and liquor cost and their controls.
- Reviews and approves all department schedules to ensure efficient staffing and productivity levels are maintained.
- Ensures all staff has the necessary tools to operate. Follows up on operational needs, staffing, training opportunities, etc.
- Resolves guest and employee concerns tactfully and in a timely manner.
- Conducts routine weekly dormitory inspections ensuring safety and cleanliness guidelines are followed.
- Frequently inspects rooms, public areas, and kitchen for cleanliness and condition.
- Will assist in specific departments when necessary.
- Establish, enforces and follows all company policies and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years previous Manager / Innkeeper and guest service management experience is required.
- Hotel / restaurant degree or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Experience in seasonal hotel or concessions operations is preferred.
- Excellent organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management.
- Previous experience with public speaking recommended.
- Must be friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic and courteous in dealing with guests and co-workers.
- Must be able to handle guest concerns in a professional and tactful manner.
- Must use tact and discretion due to exposure to confidential matters.
Work Environment
- Hotel & Hospitality operations in a natural environment.
- Job requires working long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Typically 55+ hours/week.
- Flexible scheduling is required.

- Drivers Licence required: Canadian Class 5 ( Class 4 licence is an asset )
Job Type: Full Time, seasonal from end of August 2020 to early April 2021 or Year Round from June to April
