WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?

We have an immediate opening for an assistant farm manager. The assistant farm manager will work with the farm manager to oversee day-to-day operation of the vegetable farm from seed to point of sale. This is the first season developing a brand new farm operation and we are building from the ground up. Exciting!

In 2012 we are cultivating 2 ½ acres of vegetables, and plan to grow to over 15 acres over the next 5 years. We sell via CSA, farm market, and other outlets.

The assistant manager should have several years of experience growing vegetables organically or sustainably, a good attitude, and a green thumb. We will train the right candidate. Skills to include all aspects of production from seed to sales, including greenhouse management and crew supervision. The farm is open to the community, so strong customer relation skills will be favored. Experience with tractors and related equipment preferred.

This is a unique opportunity to become part of an exciting new kind of agriculture - an integrated community farm. We are looking for folks with flexibility, creativity, patience and positive attitude. Willowsford Farm is a beautiful site in the rolling terrain of Northern Virginia.

This is salaried position with benefits and off-site housing available. Salary is commensurate with experience. Couples are welcome.

The Farm and Community

Willowsford Farm is a part of the Willowsford Conservancy, located in Loudoun County, Virginia. The farm is growing within Willowsford, Virginia, a new, planned residential community, less than one hour from Washington, DC. A unique project, Willowsford is a 4,170 acre development of 2,174 families, of which approximately 2,000 acres has been set aside under the non-profit Conservancy to be managed as farm, forest, and natural open space.

We are committed to using organic practices to grow great fruits and vegetables and animal products for both community members and those living outside the community. We are growing Willowsford Farm so that it is integrated into the framework of the community, and manages and enhances the natural resources under its care. We are a founding member of Chesapeake CRAFT and part of a small but strong community of local growers.
