WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?

 This is an on-site residential,full time,  career oriented training position with advancement opportunity for an individual or couple.  The career track starts as an Aspiring or Assistant, and would ultimately lead to Master Innkeeper/owner.  The Stonewall Jackson Inn is adjacent to James Madison University and provides internships of various lengths to the students there who are majoring in Hospitality and Tourism.  The owner is  Professor Emeritus faculty at JMU and PAII's International Ambassador-at-large to other countries.    The Inn also provides year-long Internships to Aspiring and Assistant level Innkeepers who desire Professional Training as Master Innkeepers and/or Owner.  At this time, there are 3 full time interns on our hospitality team  The Stonewall Jackson Inn is a top rated B&B by TripAdvisor, 3-Diamond AAA and is in Bed and Breakfast.com's elite Diamond Collection.  We are a certified Virginia Green property. 

The owner is  planning to withdraw from the GM position of the Inn at the end of 2014 because of the PAII position.    Thus, he is  searching for a personally well qualified  individual or a couple, with the aptitude to be mentored and groomed to assume the Innkeeping and  upper management responsibilities of the Inn, including the supervision and training of Interns. Second career folks who have some financial stability in place would be ideal, but people with a background in education or other professional  field who wish to make a career change to Innkeeping would be very desirable. In all cases, possessing  an  aptitude profile for successful Innkeeping including  personal maturity and financial stability are essential.  If you have uncertainty about your suitability please read "So You Want to be an Innkeeper" available in any bookstore.

Again, the requirements for being a successful B&B Innkeeper cover a wide variety of qualities and skills.  As one is responsible for the safety, enjoyment and well-being of guests, one must be able to function easily and with good judgment in all crisis situation.  Having good housekeeping, cooking, serving, and conversational skills are essential.  Social skills and acceptance and toleration along with a pleasant persona and temperament bode well as guests expect you to be a personal host for their visit. Social judgment and the protocol of courtesy is expected. Personal grooming and presentation leave a lasting impression and it goes without saying that pleasant attractiveness  is always is appreciated by guests.

Being handy with property maintenance is a frequent requirement, sometimes essential, as in a plumbing disaster.  Having a "Green Thumb" with houseplants and outside flower gardens and pots is a real plus.  Yard work, snow shoveling and removal, painting, and minor repair skills are all needed frequently.

Knowledge of good business practices, budgetary planning &  bookkeeping, Marketing, are essential as well.  A B&B is an entrepreneurial business enterprise, so one must have aptitude and skills in all phases of  business planning and operation.  It is a challenging and exciting cottage business  that tests ones in all phases of the Hospitality industry.  One must be ready to deliver competent service from simple housekeeping to those of a Chief Executive Officer of a small business.

The salary range listed with this post is a very wide rage as the salary would be determined by the qualifications and experience of the individual or couple.  The salary range includes the value of all lodging, utilities, internte and other such costs of living.   The numbers are for an individual and would be adjusted upwardly for a couple.   It include the housing  in one of two Innkeeping apartments that are on site.  So, the salary and position level offered would be commensurate with your demonstrated competincies and  tailored to the situation.  Thus, the compensation package would be negotiated at the end of the two week trial/evaluation period described on the website.
