Virginia Home for Boys and Girls (VHBG) is a nonprofit organization that exists to support the needs of children who are challenged by serious social, emotional, behavioral and mental health issues. We are seeking Group Home Teaching Parent Couples to live and work in a home with 8 adolescents and provide a Therapeutic Community by using our evidence-based Teaching Family Model of Care.
Group Home Teaching Parents are needed to support our youth in a healing community where they can experience life in a nurturing family environment, make important connections with supportive role models, and develop life skills that will give them confidence to believe in their future.
Teaching Parents manage and implement all systems, rules and routines in a consistent, predictable and nurturing manner in order to foster positive growth and development of each child placed in the program.
Responsibilities include serving as a leader and positive role model for every child, providing teaching and support around social, coping, daily living, academic, healthy relationship and independent living skills. Duties also include implementing treatment plans, guidance, and supervision to youth including overseeing physical care, development of acceptable habits and attitudes, positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention, assistance with the upkeep of the physical environment, helping youth achieve mastery of identified goals and objectives and the timely thorough completion of required documentation.
In-house training is provided for behavior intervention, CPR, First Aid, Human Rights and Teaching Family Model certification.
Qualifications/Experience:
Individual Requirements: High School diploma and at least two years’ experience working with children adolescents; or Associate’s degree and one year’s experience working with children or adolescents; or B.A./B.S. in a human services related concentration.
Full-time position; Salary and benefit package are competitive, commensurate with experience and housing is provided.
