UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest is seeking an energetic, organized, and self-directed couple with a positive attitude for the position of live-in caretaker and forest ambassador. The caretaker is responsible for being on-site during non-office hours (4pm until 8am weekdays; all weekends and stat holidays).
The University of British Columbia’s Malcolm Knapp Research Forest is located in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. The caretaker position includes the residency of a 3 bedroom 1 bath recently renovated home, electricity and natural gas, one lockable garage space and storage area and a monthly salary.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Interacting with the public on an ongoing basis
· Providing security during all non-office hours
· Acting as a point of contact for any emergencies or incidents outside of office hours
· Maintaining the caretaker residence and performing light renovation work
· Performing all required grounds keeping duties around the caretaker house and office
· General maintenance of the public parking lots and the exterior gate
Requirements:
· Valid driver’s license
· Excellent customer service and communication skills
· Ability to work with minimal direction
· Strong project follow through
· Ability to pass a background check
· Authorized to work in Canada
· Fluent English, written and spoken
· Non-smoker
· Neat, clean and organized
· Must be able to live on-site
Assets (not required):
· Background in security
· Security training course(s)
· Experience with small 2 cycle engines
· Skid Steer or Fork Lift experience and training
· Wildland fire fighting experience
· First aid OFA Level One certification
· Chainsaw certification and experience
