WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
House Parent Couples Needed
The following information will provide you both a broad overview of this position as well as an understanding of its distinct responsibilities and qualifications.
The Home Parent position is one in which a couple is hired to move into one of our Temecula area group homes where they take up full-time residence as surrogate parental care-givers with the six children who are placed in that home for the couple to live with and care for. The children will reside in our program anywhere from 6 months to possibly 2 or 3 years. Within our group homes, the children have a safe refuge away from the environments of abuse and neglect out of which they were many times removed and are then placed with us to nurture, encourage, and guide onto the path of emotional healing. Our goal is to bring the children to a place of wholeness so they might successfully graduate from our program and be reunited with either an appropriate member of their biological family or possibly be placed with a wonderful foster family that will provide them a loving home and a ‘forever family’.
The Home Parent will learn to provide leadership, nurture, and understanding unique to the children's emotional needs. They will plan group outings and activities, help with meal preparation, assist with homework and academic projects, keep the home organized and clean, and attend to the children's spiritual growth. Likewise, the Home Parent will be directly involved in the implementation of treatment plans and strategies designed to help the children succeed. In so doing, they will function as part of a treatment team of staff working together to provide the appropriate role modeling, therapeutic interventions, and mentoring the children will require in order to recover from the affects of the trauma and abuse they have suffered.
The couple does not need to have college education in order to be considered for this position. Likewise, they do not need to have had prior work experience in this field as we will provide the training, guidance, and support to help them succeed in this vital service to special needs children. The couple’s receptivity to training, supervision, instruction, and personal growth will be essential in order for them to succeed in teaming with other staff as they positively impact the lives of some pretty special kids.
To be considered for this position, the couple must be able to successfully pass (within 7 calendar days) a fingerprinted criminal history background check. If the candidate’s criminal clearance is not received within 7 calendar days, any offer of employment will then be rescinded. Secondly, the couple must each have held state driver's licenses (within the United States) for at least two (2) years. Should either of the individuals have a driver's license issued by another state (in the U.S.), they would be required to obtain a California license should they be offered an employment position.
In terms of monthly work schedules, the Home Parent couple will be on-duty for a 9-day work shift followed by a 5-day extended weekend every other week. When the Home Parents have their 5 days off at the end of their 9-day shift, another set of staff will supervise the children in their absence by staying with the children the entire time. The Home Parents are free to either leave the premises or stay on-site during their time off.
The Home Parents are provided the master bedroom/bathroom quarters that are designated solely for their use. The couple's combined annual gross income is approximately $49,000.00 per couple. Living expenses such as food, utilities, rent, etc. are completely paid by Thessalonika Family Services.
Pertaining to paid benefits, the Home Parent position provides annual paid vacation in addition to paid medical/dental insurance, life insurance, sick pay, as well as most major holidays.
We are looking for couples who have integrity as well as the heart to serve children by providing them the love, structure, and nurture the kids never had the privilege of enjoying. Our desire is to hire staff who will invest their time, their hearts, as well as their energies into building trusting relationships with children and thus provide the foundationally key element of relationship that initiates the wonderful transformation process of rebuilding broken lives.
We view our ministry as a very practical way of putting into practice the spirit of James 1:27 which says: "This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress..."
