We are an independent 20-room motel located in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, operating year-around. We are seeking a live-in couple to handle the maintenance needs of the motel, as well as assisting with guest services and front desk operations. Located just south of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and only 45 minutes west of Asheville, Maggie Valley is known for its gorgeous scenery and is also surrounded by plenty to do and see. This is a great role for a retired or semi-retired couple seeking a permanent position in a pleasant atmosphere.
As the Front Desk/Maintenance Leaders, you will work closely with and report directly to the General Manager, and will also work with a small team of Housekeepers. The ideal candidates, aside from being knowledgeable in the skills necessary to perform the job, must also be able to communicate effectively and pleasantly with both motel guests and fellow staff. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands of the position such as heavy lifting, working on ladders, and standing or walking for extended periods of time. Must have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and willingness to jump in and assist with any task. A background check will be conducted, and periodic drug tests may be required.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance program for guest rooms, common areas and laundry facilities.
- Perform ground maintenance such as landscaping, cleaning all exterior areas of the property.
- Responsible for troubleshooting/repairing all building systems.
- Conducts all general repairs and facility maintenance including but not limited plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, painting, wall covering touch up, caulk and grouting
- Maintain the Daily Work Order Tickets in an organized manner to avoid duplicate/unnecessary work and present during various inspections
- This position requires being on-call 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
- Interacts with guests in a manner that is professional, ethical, and customer service driven.
Front Desk
- Responsible for checking guests into and out of the motel
- Make and modify guest reservations using a web-based property management system
- Process credit card and cash payments; perform daily audit
- Answer incoming calls in a polite and professional manner
- Keep manager and housekeeping staff aware of guest concerns, special requests, and other needs
- Answer questions, address complaints and provide suitable information about the surrounding area
Guest Services
- Greet and welcome guests throughout their stay
- Responsible for daily setup of the complimentary continental breakfast, ensuring items are well stocked, and cleaning up after breakfast
- Assist with guest special request and concerns in a courteous, efficient and friendly manner
- Be available on-call after hours for emergency guest needs
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- General knowledge of electric, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry
- Experience with/ability to learn and use a computer web-based reservations/property management system
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Customer service experience
- Professional and polite demeanor
- Organizational skills
- Previous hotel industry experience highly preferred
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including on-call overnight hours
- No problem drinkers or drug users!
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record
