Glenwood Academy (formally Glenwood School for Boys and Girls) is seeking married couples to positively impact the lives of diverse children as live-in House Parents. Join us in our mission to nurture and educate at-risk children by inspiring excellence, building character, and strengthening community. 

 

Glenwood School is over 125 years old organization located 30 miles south of Chicago on a beautiful residential campus.  Founded by Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln and Oscar L. Dudley, investigator for the Illinois Humane Society, Glenwood has evolved from a manual training school for dependent boys focused on farming to a comprehensive education and supportive residential program for boys and girls focused on academic success and leadership.

 

House Parents play a central role in the students’ lives as caregivers, role models, and motivators.  The primary role of House Parents is to nurture, educate and parent each student entrusted in their care. Cottage homes consist of approximately 12 students ranging from 7- 17 years old.  House Parents work to create a family-like atmosphere in the cottage homes and provide both quality one-on-one and group time with the children to develop self-worth and autonym. The House Parents oversee the basics of the students’ daily living, including their physical, mental, and emotional care. House Parents collaborate with case managers, teachers, administrators, and parent/guardians to facilitate student success.

 

Requirements include:

  • Commitment to children required
  • Couple must meet age and family status requirements
  • Each person must have a valid driver’s license
  • Experience working with diverse children and youth
  • Bachelors' degree preferred
