Upper Canada Heritage Farm is looking for a live-in Farm Couple to assist in its 300 hog operation. Located on 100 acres about one hour southwest of Ottawa, our family raises a heritage breed, The Large Black Pig, on rotating pastures. We have succeeded in helping to bring this remarkable breed back from the brink of extinction by developing a thriving market for their meat in the Nation's Capital.

We need a Farm Couple to live on the farm year round, either in the house or in a 26' trailer on the property. You would be expected to spend on average about 5-6 hours each day tending the herd. Duties include feeding, watering, bedding, tractor maintenance, electric fencing and barn repairs and maintenance. Opportunities are available for you to create your own market garden, chicken flock, or other agricultural endeavour using our equipment and land.

All living expenses (except food) are covered. You will receive a weekly cash stipend (amount to be negotiated) and will have regular access to a car.

Experience is not necessary. We are looking for a couple with enthusiasm, honesty, a good work ethic and a positive outlook who want to learn about alternative farming. Ideally, we are looking for a committed couple who will be with us for up to one year. The positions are available as of February 2012.
